Hail damage looks bad on your new vehicle, but it isn't significant. With paintless dent repair, you won't even be able to tell anything happened and your vehicle will be returned to you promptly.

What is Paintless Dent Repair?

This method of dent repair is used on small dents. For it to work, the paint surface must be undamaged; however, it may be used on aluminum panels as well as those made of steel. It is most effective for hail damage because of the likelihood that the dents will be minor, and the paint won't be affected.

Other uses for paintless dent repair include dings on the door, damage along the bodylines, and minor creases. Even large dents can be repaired with this method as long as the paint is intact.

Another time when paintless dent repair may be beneficial is with more major damage with the paint. The dents may be removed in preparation for repainting. When this happens, it is known as push to paint.

Modern vehicles are better suited to paintless dent repair because of the flexibility of the paint. Older models may not have this flexibility. Another consideration as to whether paintless dent repair will be effective is how shallow the dents are. Large dents may be repaired with the method as long as they aren't deep or sharp.

How Paintless Dent Repair Works

Most body technicians fix the dent from underneath the body panel. They use metal rods to push the dent out. Another method is with glue and tabs that pull the dent out from on top. Once the dent is removed, high spots may be seen. Those spots may need to be tapped down with orange peel to match the texture of the paint. Heat is used to prevent the paint from chipping or cracking.

The severity of the damage from hail will depend on the size of the hail and how much protection the car had. If it was sitting under a tree or canopy, the damage may be minimal. A vehicle sitting out in the open with softball size hail hitting it will probably have some serious damage. The windshield may even get cracked. Golf ball size hail is sure to leave some dents. Even quarter-size hail will have an impact, but it will be much less.

If your vehicle has been damaged from hail or other sources and has a few dents (or a lot of dents!), you can get it repaired and looking like new again. Contact Subaru of Midland Odessa for a quote.
